Prop L Passes: Expanded Resources and Renovations Coming

With the successful passage of Proposition L by Marshall voters Tuesday night, the Marshall Public Library is on track for relocating to its new location on East Morgan by mid-2026.

Voters passed a one-quarter cent sales tax on retail sales within the City of Marshall, securing essential funding to support library renovations, expanded programming, and enhanced collections through 2039.

Library Director Matt Rahner expressed his appreciation for the community’s support: “We are deeply grateful for the community’s commitment to the future of the Marshall Public Library. The passage of Proposition L allows the citizens of Marshall to enrich lifelong learning in a 21st century library, and the library can provide new resources to our patrons. We look forward to enhancing the library’s role as a vital educational and cultural center for all of our patrons and library users.”

Residents can expect to see the first phases of planning to begin in the coming months, with updates and timelines shared on the Marshall Public Library’s website and Facebook page. Community members are encouraged to stay engaged and participate in upcoming events where they can share feedback and learn more about the future of their library.

Renovations will begin soon at the future home of the library at 102. E Morgan. Plans include developing designated spaces for children’s activities, teen programs, and adult resources, as well as expanding collections to meet the evolving needs of the community.

With this new funding, the library will also continue to enhance its general operations, supporting both in-person and digital services. A variety of new programs are in development, from early literacy programs and educational workshops to career development resources and cultural events.
