Children’s Book Author to Speak at Marshall Public Library
Marshall Public Library will host a book talk with children’s author Jody Jensen Shaffer on July 10 at 10am.
Shaffer plans to read her picture book “Creep, Leap, Crunch! A Food Chain Story” and hold a craft session.
“Creep, Leap, Crunch!” is a narrative picture book that follows the science of the food chain, demonstrating how each element in nature is interdependent. The book was recognized by the National Science Teaching Association in their science recommendations for students K-12.
Shaffer is most known to Missourians for her picture book “Prudence the Part-Time Cow,” which was a 2019 Show Me Award nominee. She has written dozens of books published by Penguin, Doubleday, and Random House, including the Amazon best-seller “It’s Your First Day of School, Busy Bus!”
Shaffer lives in Liberty, Missouri, with her family. When she’s not writing, she can be found spending time with family and walking her rescue dog. Shaffer has a bachelor’s degree in English from William Jewell College and a master’s in English from Truman State University.
“After 12 years in the business world, I left to raise my children,” says Shaffer. “That’s when I fell in love with children’s literature.”
This family event is free and open to the public as part of the library’s summer reading program.
